MtA Hacks! Every year, Mount Allison hosts a hackathon. A hackathon is an event where you get to meet other computer science students, and then work together to build a piece of software in 48 hours. Then everyone's work is judged at the end. Its an awesome way to make connections and meet people!
The biggest thing I recommend for everyone is to get involved, go to as many events as possible, and try to meet as many people as you can! It can be a little intimidating being put in a completely new environment with new people, but we are all here to help you guys out and make you feel at home. So even if you feel scared or nervous (like I did!), take a leap of faith and put yourself out there! Meet new friends, have fun and enjoy your time here, because let me tell you it flies by FAST. So that being said, take advantage of everyday and live with no regrets!
Spending time with my friends on weekends! In a small town like Sackville you get to meet so many great people, and you will always run into people you know wherever you go, which I think is a really unique feature of living in a small town.
When I first came to Mount A, I wanted to pursue a career in Academia. So I wanted to choose a small university where I could work closely with profs and have the opportunity to do research. My goals have shifted pretty drastically since then, but being able to get research experience really early on in my degree helped me learn that research wasn't actually something I wanted to purse. The flexibility to try new things and then quickly switch directions really helped me figure out what I passionate about.
